Ariana Grande goes through the stages of love in the music video for “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).”

The MV starts with Ariana at the doctor’s, where the staff performs a procedure to erase a person from her memory.

It then transitions to Ariana and her boyfriend, played by Evan Peters, who go on an arcade date. This moves to the couple not talking to each other, to them enjoying making snow angels, and then to them celebrating Ariana’s birthday with a romantic date.

Throughout the video, they get separated as Ariana continues to lose her memory. Now with a fresh memory, Ariana leaves the doctor’s office with a new man, and Evan is also with someone new.

“we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” is part of the popstar’s comeback album “eternal sunshine,” which dropped on Friday.

Ariana marked her new era with the comeback single “yes, and?” which also has a new remix featuring Mariah Carey.

The singer first hinted at working on new music with photos and videos of her in action in the studio last December.

Ariana has been taking a break from music because she is starring in the film adaptation of the musical “Wicked,” playing Glinda, The Good Witch. It premieres in the Philippines on November 27.

Her last album “Positions” was released in 2020. She briefly returned to music as part of The Weeknd’s “Die For You” remix, which dropped last February. Ariana also released the 10th-anniversary edition of her debut album “Yours Truly” in August. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
