Rivermaya 2024: 5 memorable moments from the reunion concert
The boys of Rivermaya have finally come together once again as they shared the stage and delighted their fans with some of their top hits!
On Saturday, former vocalist and guitarist Rico Blanco, former vocalist Bamboo Manalac, drummer Mark Escueta, and bassist Nathan Azarcon took over SMDC Concert Grounds, which was filled with the band's fans who were truly excited and thrilled to have seen them perform together again after a long time.
Aside from the weather being so cooperative and nice that special night, here are five more memorable moments that happened during Rivermaya's reunion concert.
1. Nostalgic setlist
The venue's air was immediately filled with nostalgia as the well-loved band included their early releases in the concert's setlist.
Rivermaya kicked off their reunion concert with their song "Monopoly," which was released in 1996 as part of their album "Trip."
Other songs they performed during the night were "The Princess of Disguise," "20 Million," "Hilo," "Awit ng Kabataan," "Ulan," "Elesi," "Hinahanap-Hanap Kita," and "Panahon na Naman."
2. Fans' witty comments
Truly, it was a highly anticipated reunion event, especially for the fans of Rivermaya.
In between songs, some couldn't hide their kilig upon seeing the band together again, so much that their witty and clever sides came out through their remarks and comments.
"Rico, sa 'yo lang ako," a fan said with his deep, masculine voice, followed by a woman's "Crush ka ng boyfriend ko!"
Others also couldn't help but get chills.
Some said "Kinikilabutan ako" multiple times, while others were just simply amazed and would say "Walang daya talaga. Ganun pa rin ang boses, eh!"
3. Rico's solo performance
Speaking of Rico getting professions of love from fans for the nth time, he also delighted their guests with a heart-fluttering "You'll Be Safe Here" solo piano performance.
Side note, just in case you didn't know, Rico is in a relationship with actress Maris Racal.
4. Rivermaya's response to technical problems
The concert was briefly put on pause when the audio suddenly stopped working just when they were starting with "20 Million."
So, to keep their fans entertained while their team was fixing the problem, the members went down the stage and greeted their fans with handshakes and hugs.
About 10 minutes later, the audio is back, with Rico joking that he heard someone say the short interruption was just perfect for a quick toilet break.
5. Fireworks
Among the pros of holding a concert in an open field is that artists can also surprise their fans with beautiful fireworks, as Rivermaya did.
As they capped off the night, fireworks lit up the sky, pairing their final song, "Kisapmata," with a magical feel.
Truly, it was the perfect way to end their reunion concert.
