Rivermaya The Reunion: The 5 essential songs to sing your heart out to

Who else can’t wait for the Rivermaya reunion concert on Saturday?

It will be a wild, once-in-a-lifetime experience to see former vocalist and guitarist Rico Blanco, former vocalist Bamboo Manalac, drummer Mark Escueta, and bassist Nathan Azarcon share the same stage again.

And to get you into the best energy for the show, here are five Rivermaya songs you need to have memorized so you can sing your heart out on the big night:

1. 214

It is safe to say that “214” is one of OPM’s best and most iconic love songs.

The track perfectly captures how life is hard, but the right person will take care of and love you despite the many challenges, and stay “forever by your side.”

2. Kisapmata

If “214” is a song about experiencing real love, “Kisapmata” is all about the confusion and heartbreak after suddenly being left behind.

One of OPM’s most memorable breakup songs, the band performed a special version of the track at a recent TV guesting.

3. Elesi

Do you know that song that just brings you back to the good old days? Rivermaya’s “Elesi” does just that, and transports us to 1997.

“Elesi” has the power to bring you back to the days of youth. The song’s message adds to that as well, about how having hope and holding on can give you genuine freedom and happiness.

4. Liwanag sa Dilim

And speaking of having hope, “Liwanag Sa Dilim” by Rivermaya is the ultimate anthem just for that.

It is the type of rock song that will make you stand and put your hands up wherever you are, fight for what’s right, and serve as that bright light in the dark.

5. Umaaraw, Umuulan

“Umaaraw, Umuulan” may not be the typical motivational track, but it is the kind of song that tells you what you need to hear.

Rivermaya tackles how insecurities and life’s challenges can beat you down, but there are endless chances to start all over again.

Rivermaya is all set for the reunion concert on Saturday, February 17, at the SMDC Festival Grounds. The OPM band said in a previous interview that their songs will be given a new meaning because they are more mature now.

They've been getting fans excited for the show by posting throwback and rehearsal photos, plus behind-the-scenes clips. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
