7 local romantic films you can watch online for a stay-at-home date
If you and your special someone are in the mood to stay at home instead of going out this Valentine's Day, you might consider arranging a movie night with a Filipino romantic film or two.
There are plenty of titles you can watch on streaming platforms or even YouTube, but if you don't know where to begin, here are some options we picked out for you.
So go ahead and grab some pop corn and drinks for you and your loved one as you enjoy these films from the comfort of your couch at home.
1. Five Breakups and a Romance
If you’ve missed “Five Breakups and a Romance” in cinemas last year, you can still watch it on Prime Video starting on Valentine’s Day!
Directed by Irene Villamor, this blockbuster film has made many viewers cry and fall in love thanks to the amazing performances from Alden Richards and Julia Montes.
The word “breakups” in the title might put you off watching it on heart’s day, but you can’t have a breakup without love, and there’s love aplenty in the film.
2. Video City: Be Kind, Please Rewind
If you fancy some nostalgia, Ruru Madrid and Yassi Pressman take us back to the 90s in “Video City.”
The story follows Ruru, a filmmaker who ends up accidentally traveling back in time. There he meets Yassi, a woman who will change his life.
Directed by Raynier Brizuela, the film is currently streaming on Netflix.
3. Sid & Aya: Not A Love Story
If “Five Breakups and a Romance” got you curious about Irene Villamor’s films, here’s another one you can watch: “Sid & Aya: Not A Love Story,” starring Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis.
The 2018 film follows Sid (Dingdong), a lonely insomniac who pays Aya (Anne) to accompany him during his sleepless nights.
“Sid & Aya” is currently streaming on Netflix.
4. Walang KaParis
Alessandra De Rossi, Empoy Marquez, and Director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, who first captured the hearts of Filipinos in blockbuster film “Kita Kita,” once again team up in “Walang KaParis.”
The story follows Jojo (Empoy), a Filipino painter in Paris whose art is inspired by a mysterious muse. He meets Marie (Alessandra), who claims to be the subject of his paintings.
The film is currently streaming on Prime Video.
5. English Only, Please
If you’re up for a classic Pinoy romcom, “English Only, Please” is definitely for you and your special someone. Starring Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay, the film bagged seven awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2014.
The story follows Tere (Jennylyn), who gets hired by Julian (Derek) to teach him Tagalog after she translates an angry letter to his ex-girlfriend to his satisfaction. Through their lessons, they end up falling for each other.
The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
6. Tayo sa Huling Buwan ng Taon
“Tayo sa Huling Buwan ng Taon” is the sequel of Nestor Abrogena’s 2015 film “Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa.” It stars Nicco Manalo, Emmanuelle Vera, Anna Luna, and Alex Medina.
In the film, a pair of ex-lovers reunite after five years and come into terms with their lingering feelings for each other amid their current relationships.
It is currently streaming on Prime Video.
7. You To Me Are Everything
If you don’t have a subscription on Netflix or Prime Video, don’t worry! There are still films available for you to watch for free online.
On YouTube, Regal Entertainment has uploaded some of their full movies, including Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s “You To Me Are Everything.”
