6 Christmas movies to watch this holiday season

Aside from munching over your favorite dishes and going on adventures on Christmas day, you can also take time to unwind by relaxing on your couch watching movies this holiday.

To make your Christmas merrier, here are six movies you can watch in your next Christmas movie marathon!

1. Home Alone

For starters, "Home Alone" is one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time. 

Considered a Christmas classic, the comedy film follows the adventures of eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who has to take care of himself after his family departs for a holiday trip to France. Assuming his wish to have no family has come true, Kevin finds himself in a robbery attempt and realizes that he alone must protect the family home.

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you are looking for some thrill before Christmas, then the movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" might be for you!

Produced by seasoned American filmmaker Tim Burton, the film centers on the adventures of Jack Skellington, the beloved pumpkin king of Halloweentown, who got tired of scaring people in the "real world" every year. 

Jack is given a fresh start in life when he unintentionally stumbles across Christmastown, which is a vibrant, happy place. He plans to take over Santa Claus and use his abduction to rule over Christmas. However, Jack quickly finds out that even the most well-intentioned schemes by skeleton men and mice may go horribly wrong.

3. The Grinch

Based on the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" by Dr. Seuss, the Grinch has been one of the most well-loved Christmas movies, becoming 2018 highest-grossing Christmas film of all time.

"The Grinch" is a Christmas story about a grumpy creature named the Grinch who despises Christmas and seeks to steal it from the happy citizens of Whoville. He intends to steal their decorations and presents while disguised as Santa. Seeing the Whos' real joy and affection for one another softens the Grinch's heart. He changes his mind, returns the stolen things, and discovers the true meaning of Christmas - the value of love, community, and giving.

4. Barbie in A Christmas Carol

Barbie girlies, this film is made especially for you!

"Barbie in a Christmas Carol" is an animated adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, "A Christmas Carol," but with a Barbie twist.

In the movie, Barbie plays the self-centered singer Eden Starling, who is visited by three Christmas spirits. They point out her the mistakes in her past, the happiness she is losing in the present moment, and the dark future that lies ahead if she doesn't change. Eden learns the value of kindness and sharing from these experiences. 

The story emphasizes the timeless message that the true spirit of Christmas is all about love, compassion, and selflessness. 

5. The Elf

"The Elf" is a 2003 holiday comedy film that is truly one for the books.

It follow the story of Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole. After discovering his real identity, Buddy goes to New York City to get back in touch with his biological father, Walter Hobbs. Buddy's contagious Christmas joy, despite early hardships, improves the lives of his family and everyone around him.

6. The Holiday

If you want to feel kilig this holiday season, then maybe you would want to watch the romantic comedy film "The Holiday."

The film, which stars Jack Black, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Kate Winslet, centers on two women who are having trouble finding love: Iris (Diaz) and Amanda (Winslet). For the Christmas season, they decide to exchange homes, which sparks unexpected romantic encounters.  Iris became friends with Miles (Jack) in Los Angeles, while Amanda connected with Iris's brother, Graham (Law), in the English countryside.

This heartwarming and a hit romantic comedy delves into themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery during the holiday season.
