Chito Miranda shares why he stopped playing the guitar while singing at shows

Did you know that Chito Miranda used to play the guitar and sing during the early days of Parokya ni Edgar?

The singer posted throwback photos of a live show on Instagram, and looked back at when he multitasked with singing and playing.

He revealed that he looked up to fellow OPM legends Ely Buendia and Rico Blanco, who both play the guitar.

“May time kasi na na-inggit ako kay Ely at kay Rico kasi pareho silang nagi-gitara habang kumakanta, feeling ko sobrang cool lang nila...but I soon realized that it wasn't for me,” Chito said.

“Una, hindi naman ako magaling mag-gitara, di tulad nila Ely at Rico,” he added. “Pangalawa, na-realize ko na mas enjoy ako na kumanta lang na walang ibang ini-isip kundi kumanta at magtatatalon sa stage."

In the comments section, Rico had a wholesome response: “Klasmeyt may time din na di ako nag gitara kasi nainggit naman ako sayo,” Rico said. “Ang sarap nung di kailangan mag sound check[.]”

A musical featuring the OPM band’s songs titled “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical” is gearing up for an epic debut at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in 2024.

Buruguduystunstugudunstuy” is Parokya’s debut album released in 1997. It is home to the OPM classics “Harana,” “Silvertoes,” “Sayang,” and “Please Don’t Touch My Birdie.”

More of the band’s hits include “Your Song,” “Pangarap Lang Kita,” “Gitara,” and “Halaga.”
