OPM artist Jikamarie is the opening act at Coldplay's Philippine concerts
Breakout OPM artist Jikamarie is the opening act for Coldplay’s two sold-out concerts at the Philippine Arena in January.
Jikamarie is the sensation behind the viral hit “lutang,” which made waves on TikTok during the pandemic. It garnered over 80,000 creations on the platform and skyrocketed to the top of the local and global Spotify viral charts at no. 1 in less than a month. The song now has more than 20 million streams and became her entry into music.
In a statement, Jikamarie said that she could "not believe it" when she found out that she would be opening for Coldplay, Jikamarie felt ecstatic.
“This is a band I've been listening to since I was in elementary," she said. "I didn't have a phone then so I'd wait for their music videos to play on MYX. I cried so hard to my family because of how excited I am when I found out."
She added that the song “Fix You” is her favorite of the band’s because of its timelessness.
More of Jikamarie’s singles include “Hinahanap-Hanap,” “lito,” and the upcoming song, “bawi na lang sa next life.”
Coldplay is set to have their Music of the Spheres tour on January 19 and 20, 2024 at the Philippine Arena. They first visited the country in 2017.
In 2022, their concert in Buenos Aires was screened in cinemas worldwide. That same year, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of their album “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” which includes the hits “The Scientist,” “In My Place,” and “Clocks.”
The band also recently worked with Jin from BTS on his debut solo single “The Astronaut,” which they performed together in Argentina. BTS and Coldplay collaborated on the song “My Universe” in 2021. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
