Dua Lipa returns with new dance bop 'Houdini'

Dua Lipa is back! Her danceable new single “Houdini” kicked off her highly anticipated new chapter.

In the "Houdini" official music video, Dua sports bright red hair in a dance hall, performing her choreography under fluorescent lights. Her backup dancers also have red hair. The lights and the room’s mirrors create an optical illusion.

Dua said in a statement that the track “embodies that 4 a.m. feeling when the night is coming to a close and you're a bit sweaty, but you just don't want the party to end.”

The chart-topping singer added that the song “represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom.”

“’Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans,” Dua said.

Teasing her upcoming album, Dua says that the majority of the songs were written during happy moments.

“A lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be,” she said.

Dua’s recent hit is “Dance the Night” from the “Barbie” soundtrack. She also played Mermaid Barbie in the film.

More of Dua’s hits include “Levitating,” “Don’t Start Now,” “New Rules,” and her feature on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Sweetest Pie,” among others. Her latest album "Future Nostalgia" came out in 2020. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
