Zac Efron on playing Matthew Perry in a biopic: 'I'd be honored'

Zac Efron said he would “be honored” to portray Matthew Perry in a biopic.

According to People Magazine, the late “Friends” actor previously said that he would want Zac to portray him in a film about his life.

Zac exclusively told the magazine, “I'm honored to hear he was thinking of me to play him."

"We'll see," he added. "I'd be honored to do it."

Zac and Matthew worked together in 2009 in “17 Again.” Zac played the younger version of Matthew’s character, studied his mannerisms, and also learned some acting lessons from him.

"He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together," Zac said. "I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming ‘17 Again,’ it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there, because I've learned so much from him, from his whole life."

He added that he is “devastated” by Matthew’s loss.

Matthew died of drowning in October at 54 years old. He was laid to rest in Los Angeles.

A week after his death, the cast of "Friends"— Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc—issued a joint statement on his passing, saying they were left "utterly devastated." Several celebrities also mourned his death.

In the Philippines, a freedom wall was set up at SM North Edsa to honor Matthew. Fans also paid tribute to him outside the New York apartment building used in the show's filming. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
