R'Bonney Gabriel amuses netizens by packing balikbayan boxes for Miss Universe
R’Bonney Gabriel is a Filipina through and through!
The reigning Miss Universe posted her airport look before flying out to El Salvador. R’Bonney slayed an all-purple look of a bralette, mini skirt, and coat with fur cuffs and collar. She paired this with thigh-high white boots.
But what stood out was R’Bonney’s distinctly Filipino trait: packing several balikbayan boxes along with her luggage.
R’Bonney had an equally witty caption.
“Manager Milana: ‘How many suitcases are you packing for Miss Universe?’
“Me: [melting face emoji].”
Netizens were amused at R’Bonney’s balikbayan boxes.
Filipino-American model and Miss Supranational 2018 1st Runner-Up Katrina Dimaranan commented, “Yass get that balikbayan box girl!”
“Balikbayan boxes but make it fashion,” Filipina-Canadian entrepreneur Amira de Vera said.
Pageant coach Voltaire E. Tayag said, “Did you bring another national costume in those boxes?”
A netizen said, “Tell me you’re #filipina without telling me you’re #filipina #balikbayanbox”
“She said suitcase[, nah] box,” a user said.
R’Bonney was crowned Miss Universe in January and is the first Filipino-American queen to have the title. Aside from being a beauty queen, she is also a sustainable fashion designer.
R’Bonney visited the Philippines this year as the special guest for the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night. She was also able to reunite with her family and visit her dad’s home street in Malate.
In an interview on “Updated with Nelson Canlas,” R’Bonney’s said one of her distinct Filipino habits is picking up things with her feet.
The Miss Universe 2023 coronation night is happening on November 18, with Michelle Dee as the Philippines’ representative.
