Co-producers of Eraserheads's 'Huling El Bimbo' concert behind new documentary
WEU and DVent Productions, which co-produced the "Huling El Bimbo" concert, are the two companies behind the new documentary on the Eraserheads.
Francis Lumen, president of WEU Event Management Services, confirmed this in an exclusive online message to GMA News Online.
DVent managing director is Maria Diane Ventura, who also co-managed Eraserheads' vocalist Ely Buendia with Day Cabuhat.
In a feature interview with online magazine Hiraya, Buendia confirmed that a new Eraserheads documentary is in the works.
He didn't elaborate on the specifics.
Fans couldn't help but speculate on the details, such as who will direct the documentary.
Ventura is an accomplished filmmaker and executive producer of DVent Pictures. In 2021, her international debut feature film titled "Deine Farbe" (Your Color) has won 22 awards from film festivals in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
She wrote, directed, and produced "Deine Farbe." It is described as "a tale of friendship between two young men who leave their German hometown for a freer life in majestic Barcelona, where fate and choices threaten their once unbreakable bond."
Ventura's initial work as filmmaker was the 2012 short film titled "The Rapist" which starred Cherie Gil and Marco Morales. It was cited among the Best Short Films at the International Film Festival Manhattan and was shortlisted as among the Best Short Films in Asia.
Her first feature-length student project titled "Awaken" also won the Best Director award at the 2015 Manhattan Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the 2016 World Cinema Festival in Brazil.
As for Buendia, his works as filmmaker and actor may have been overshadowed by his iconic status in the music industry.
In 2014, Buendia wrote and directed one of the three segments in "Bang Bang Alley." It is described as a trio of tales on how people are driven to extremes because of the culture of violence in the Philippines. It starred Bela Padilla, Jimmy Santos, Gabe Mercado, and Megan Young.
Buendia was a film major at UP College of Mass Communication.
Fans have been wondering whether the untitled documentary will cover what happened way back the first reunion concert of the Eraserheads on August 30, 2008.
It was also Lumen, through the now defunct MTV Philippines that had a tie-up with the behemoth Smart Communications, who helped reunite Buendia, Raymund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro and Buddy Zabala for the said reunion after breaking up as a band in 2002.
MTV Philippines also co-produced the second reunion on March 7, 2009, dubbed "The Final Set." The concert was aired exclusively on GMA-7 a month later.
