'Drag Race PH's lip sync song 'Kapangyarihan' is a love letter to the trans community, says singer Enzo Almario

Drag Race Philippines Season 2

"Drag Race Philippines" Season 2 culminated with Captivating Katkat and Arizona Brandy going head-to-head in the final "lip sync for the crown."

After KatKat defeated Bernie, and Arizona sent M!ss Jade So home, the last two queens brought their A game, performing to iDolls' "Kapangyarihan," a song that talks about embracing the power of owning who you are. It's a fitting victory song, especially for the eventual Season 2 Drag Superstar Captivating KatKat, a transwoman drag queen, who brought up important issues and difficult conversations all throughout the season.

In the final lipsync, Arizona Brandy brought her bag full of tricks, including waving the LGBT+ flag to the lines "Bandera ko'y iwawagayway ko sa inyong lahat." but KatKat proved to be the worthy winner, as she fearlessly did a 'ruveal' and raised the transgender flag on the same song lines.

According to iDoll's Enzo Almario, a co-writer and co-singer of "Kapangyarihan," the song — especially the verse — is a love letter to the trans community. In fact, he drew inspiration from his two trans sisters.

“Noong time na sinulat ko ‘yung verse ko, sinulat ko talaga ‘to para sa aking mga trans sisters, unang una dahil may dalawa akong kapatid na trans at sila ‘yung naiiisip ko nung time na ‘yun,” Enzo told GMA News Online.

[When I wrote my verse, I really wrote it for my two trans sisters. I have two and I was really thinking of them at that tine.]

Enzo said the song is also for his trans friends, who are heavily discriminated against by society.

“Para rin ito sa mga trans friends ko na ang bilis kutsain ng ibang tao, ‘yung pagiging feminine, ‘yung pagbibihis babae at ‘yung hindi sila nire-recognize as women,” he added.

[This is also for my trans friends who are always quickly teased by others for being feminine, for dressing like a woman and for not being recognized as a woman.]

It's story highlighted in the season of "Drag Race Philippines." In "The Main Event" episode, Top 4 finalist M1ss Jade So shared her story of discrimination. She wasn't allowed to enter the prom premises because she was wearing a white cocktail dress instead of suit.

The Season 2 was filled with enlightening discussions about important topics surrounding the LGBT+ community. The transwomen of the show — Katkat, Jade, and Bernie — initiated a lot of important conversations and shared challenging issues being faced by the trans community.

In an exclusive crowning event on Wednesday night held in Whitespace Manila, Captivating Katkat was crowned as Season 2's Drag Race Superstar by Precious Paula Nicole, Season 1 winner.

Katkat was a frontrunner all throughout the season, winning two Ru Badges and serving excellent and gag-worthy runway looks. Among her most memorable performances include her iconic impersonation of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

At the exclusive crowning event, KatKat gave a short but impactful speech, saying the win is proof that age is not a hindrance to achieve our dreams.

"Drag Race Philippines" is produced in the Philippines by Fullhouse Asia Production Studios, Inc., in conjunction with World of Wonder Productions, Inc.
