The Miss Philippines explains why it won't have a swimsuit competition
The Miss Philippines earlier introduced itself like an event unlike any other — and sure enough, unlike most pageants, it won't have a swimsuit competition.
On Thursday, the organization explained the decision.
"It’s not that we have anything against swimsuits," they said in a statement on Instagram. "In fact, we will hold photoshoots at our world-famous beaches and resorts. But onstage, we’d like to shift the focus on things other than a woman’s vital statistics."
"The Miss Philippines is a platform for a woman’s voice to be heard, for her influence to be felt, and for her passion to promote Filipino culture and heritage be amplified," they added.
They added that they'll have an "exciting" Runway Segment where the spotlight will shine on each candidate.
As previously announced, the candidates will have a red carpet moment similar to the Cannes Film Festival. The speeches meanwhile will be similar to Ted Talks.
The Miss Philippines will have its screening dates on September 2 and 9, from 11 a. m. to 5 p.m. at Enderun Coworking Estancia in Estancia Mall, Pasig City.
Pauline Amelinckx was crowned the first The Miss Philippines this August.
