Around 1,000 cyclists ride bikes in Quezon City to call for climate action

Around 1,000 cyclists rode their bikes in Quezon City to call for action to fight climate change.

According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, the event was organized by Pedal for People and Planet, a non-government organization, to raise awareness about the state of the environment.

Held for the second time in the Philippines, the event saw cyclists riding 16 kilometers from Quezon City Hall to Mabuhay Rotonda.

"Lahat tayo nagkakaisa tayo para bigyan nila ng aksyon mga adhikain natin," said Val Binera from Tropang Women's Biker.

The group advocates for immediate action to solve climate change and believes that cyclists are in a good position to champion the cause.

"Tigilan na ang pagsira sa kalikasan dahil nasisira 'yung kapasidad ng mundo na i-absorb na binubuga na greenhouse gas emissions," said organizer Liddy Nacpil.

"Biking is a very good symbol for this alternative energy."

The Pedal for People and Planet event was also held in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Vietnam.
