Auli'i Cravalho won't reprise her role as Moana in Disney's live-action remake
Auli'i Cravalho isn't coming back as Moana in Disney's live-action remake of the hit animated film.
The actress made the announcement in an Instagram video, saying, "I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell."
Cravalho said that when she was cast as the voice of Moana at the age of 14, it "wonderfully changed" her life and stared her career.
However, she is "truly honored to pass this baton to the next woman of Pacific Island descent to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures and communities that help inspire her story."
"I can’t wait to find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength," she added.
Cravalho will serve as an executive producer on the film.
Dwayne Johnson, however, will reprise his role as Maui.
The live-action "Moana" was announced in April. The animated film was released in 2016, and follows Moana as she embarks on a journey to return the heart of goddess Te Fitti.
