In Andi Eigenmann's Siargao snack bar, sustainable practices abound

Andi Eigenmann has long been an advocate for the environment.

And in a recent Biyahe ni Drew episode, the former actress shared how this eco-consciousness translates to business practices for Kanaway, the Siargao snack bar she co-owns.

Apart from using 100% biodegradable and compostable cups for their takeout coffee, Kanaway also gives discounts to guests who bring their own reusable tumblers to further reduce waste.

Meanwhile, banana leaves serve as takeout containers for sandwiches as metal straws have long replaced plastic ones.

"It's my way of giving back, na talagang maging mapangalaga sa kalikasan," Andi said.

"Seeing how Siargaonons are already a bit more educated about it, it became more exciting for me to help the rest of the Philippines, to help promote sustainability in our vlogs, in our social media," she said.

According to Andi, nature is "what's saved me. It was my path to meeting Philmar and having this life."

And as such, she's doing what she can, calling out tourists to clean after themselves, organizing a zero-waste party for Baby Lilo, and pushing for pre-loved clothes for her kids to taper her consumption.

Well done, Andi! May more more — and business owners more importantly — follow in your footsteps. — LA, GMA Integrated News
