Red Velvet showcases versatility at 'R To V' Manila concert

All hail to the Red Velvet queens!

The award-winning South Korean girl group has proven that they've mastered the skill of versatility during their one-night show in Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

Although Joy wasn’t able to perform for their concert because of a health condition, REVELUVs were still able to witness her amazing talents through her recorded performances.

Presented by Pulp Live World, the show spanned nearly three hours with Red Velvet performing more than two dozen songs. Through it all, the girls remained unfazed in serving their jaw-dropping talents and visuals as they unraveled their different sides; hence the whole concept of their 4th concert tour “R to V.”

Red Velvet opened their sold-out show with a smashing entrance of “Feel My Rhythm.” They had backup dancers doing a ballet to accentuate the whole classic concept of the song.

Then the first version which was the “red” concept or the bright, loud, and pop side of the girl group unfolded as soon as the beat to the “Queendom” dropped and they emerged from underneath the stage.

“I think it was a perfect song to start with the red concept,” Wendy explained during the second ment.

And it was perfect, indeed!

Red Velvet continued to shake the whole place down with their performances of “Birthday” and “Red Flavor” that hyped the crowd on so many levels as they sang the words they knew by heart.

The concert wasn’t even halfway through, yet REVELUVs made sure to send their messages of love and appreciation through a series of fan projects whenever an opportunity arose.

“We heard that you have prepared many events for us,” Seulgi said in Korean. “When we started the concert, we saw a huge tarpaulin in front of us and it made me cry.”

The members even noticed the sea of green lights that the fans have casted for Joy.

“You are so sweet and we are grateful for the little things you’ve done for us,” Irene said. “We will definitely tell Sooyoung (Joy).”

From the youthful and colorful vibe come the sexy, dark, and mellow side of Red Velvet that the second half of the concert catered to.

What made the transition even more flawless was the meaningful VCR that Wendy voiced herself.

The sultriness of Red Velvet were exhibited even more during the fiery performances of two songs that they made popular, “Bad Boy” and “Psycho,” in which they included a shoe-stomping dance break that totally blew the fans’ minds.

And just when everyone thought that the concert was over, the four members came back onstage for their encore and made the most of their remaining time with the beloved fans.

In return, REVELUVs successfully pulled off their last fan project for their favorite group as they hold their banners and casted a beautiful ocean of colors during the heartfelt numbers of “Celebrate” and “My Dear” respectively.

“Thank you so much, Luvies,” the group’s maknae, Yeri exclaimed, “Thank you for your love today, I want to really, really see you soon again!”

Before wrapping up the concert, Red Velvet surprised the crowd with an energetic performance of “Zimzalabim.”

“More jumping please!” Seulgi pleaded in which the fans quickly obliged by jumping from their seats as they sang their hearts out for the last time.

It was definitely difficult to bid farewell especially when Red Velvet and REVULUVs alike were having the time of their lives, enjoying each other’s company.

But even though it was sad that the concert had to end, Red Velvet made a promise to return as the OT5. — LA, GMA Integrated News
