The 'Wicked' movie is coming sooner than initially planned
Exciting news for fans of the hit Broadway musical, "Wicked!" The movie adaptation is coming sooner than initially planned.
On Instagram, movie director John M. Chu announced that they've moved up the date of the first of the two-part film to Thanksgiving Day on November 27, 2024.
"Wicked" will have two movies, the first of which was originally scheduled for December 25, 2024.
"Wicked: Part Two" is still currently scheduled for December 25, 2025.
"We are deep into shooting WICKED here in London and we’ve received an overwhelming amount of messages asking us to release the movie earlier than planned and trust me, we want it too…so we now have a BRAND NEW [RELEASE] DATE!!" Chu said.
"[It’s] going to be a ride!!! appreciate all your support through this long production process. Shooting two movies at once is no small feat. Cannot wait to share more," he added.
Ariana Grande, who will play Glinda, also shared the good news on her Instagram.
In the movie, Cynthia Erivo ("Luther: The Fallen Sun") will play Elphaba.
Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All At Once") will star as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum ("Jurassic Park") will play the Wizard, Jonathan Bailey ("Bridgerton") will play Fiyero, and Keala Settle ("The Greatest Showman") will play Miss Coddle.
