Lea Salonga, Bernadette Peters to lead 'Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends' in West End run
Lea Salonga is headed back to the West End stage as one of the stars of “Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends.”
According to Broadway World, this is Lea’s first time back in the West End in 27 years, after her run on “Les Miserables.”
“I cannot wait to start working on this along with some old friends of my own!!! This is going to be FUN!!!” the theater star and Tony winner said on Instagram.
Lea’s fellow lead star is multi-award-winning actress Bernadette Peters, who will be making her West End debut. She is best known for the musicals “Song and Dance” and “Annie Get Your Gun.”
“Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends” is a tribute show to the late American composer and lyricist who was behind the musicals “West Side Story,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “Into the Woods,” and many more.
The first show happened on the West End in 2022 and aired on BBC Two. This upcoming run will be from September 2023 to January 2024 at the Gielgud Theatre in London.
