What you need to know about 'Big Bet,' a K-Drama set and filmed in the Philippines


Did you know that a new K-Drama was set and filmed in the Philippines? It stars both top Korean and Filipino actors, too!

Titled "Big Bet," the thrilling series follows Cha Mu Sik (played by Choi Min Sik), who is a legendary casino king in the Philippines. His world turns upside down when he gets tangled up in a murder case.

The unfortunate events would lead to both Korean and Filipino police on his trail.

In the series trailer, we see scenes at the famous Okada Manila.

The 60-year-old acting veteran Min Sik is best known for his roles in "Oldboy," "I Saw the Devil," and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents."

Joining the lead cast is Son Suk Ku as Oh Seung Hoon, a cop who is dispatched to the Philippines and follows Mu Sik to solve the murder case.

He gained recognition for the roles "Matrimonial Chaos," "Designated Survivor: 60 Days," and "D.P."

Lee Dong Hwi of "Reply 1988" is Yang Jeong Pal, Mu Sik's handler.

According to a report by PEP.ph, Filipino actor Nico Antonio plays Mark Flores, a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) officer who partners with Seung Hoon to investigate the murders.

Other Pinoy actors in the series are Ronnie Lazaro, Bembol Roco, Epy Quizon, Jeffrey Santos, Art Acuña, Kiko Matos, Rose Van Ginkel, Guji Lorenzana, Babyerna Liong, and Roeder Camañag.

Here's a fun fact: two cast members of "Squid Game" are part of the cast! Kim Joo Ryoung, who was player 212 or Han Mi Nyeo, plays Jin Young Hee.

Heo Sung Tae, who played the gangster Jang Deok Su or player 101, plays Seo Tae Seok, a mysterious man who is also involved in the shady casino scene in the Philippines.

Another report said that filming for the series happened from March to June of 2022.

"Big Bet" premiered on Disney+ last December 21.
