'Tekken 8' officially revealed with cinematic trailer
Round one, fight!
Tekken 8, the upcoming edition of the popular fighting video game has been officially revealed with a cinematic trailer — seven long years after the last Tekken edition was released.
The trailer features a father-and-son showdown between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, which continues from the ending dialogue of Tekken 7.
According to a blog post on the PlayStation website, game director Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco Entertainment, said this first trailer is actually real-time footage captured by playing the game on a PS5.
“All the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game.
“Although this was captured from the story mode, it is not a pre-rendered movie made for the trailer but rather real-time rendered footage, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience the game in versus battle modes,” Harada added.
He said that some of the effects, dialogue, and camera angles are still being updated and may change when the game launches.
Harada, who also serves as the chief producer of Tekken, said that the trailer showcases the quality of this game.
“You can see this level of quality in the newly created playable character models that completely sets itself apart from the current Tekken 7, and in little details like how water droplets run down the character’s skin.
“Also, if you pay attention to the background during the battle, you can see dynamic waves and tornadoes, a huge tanker gradually breaking apart, storm rendering so realistic that you can feel the wind pressure, the density of the rain,” he said.
Harada emphasized that the game is still in development and that the team is working hard to enhance the game’s quality even more.
The Tekken series holds the record for being the longest-running story in a video game — and clearly it doesn't show any signs of stopping.
