Ben&Ben collaborates with photographer Geloy Concepcion for 'The Ones We Once Loved'

Ben&Ben's latest international single, "The Ones We Once Loved" marked the nine-piece folk-pop band's first collaboration with renowned California-based Filipino photographer Geloy Concepcion

Geloy, whose has been featured in various international titles like Vogue magazine, NPR, the San Francisco Chronicle, among others, is widely known and loved for his project  "Things You Wanted to Say But Never Did," a collection of discarded images paired with anonymous confessions submitted to him.

"Geloy's eye and his way of introducing a space to let out feelings and emotions [are what] we wanted to emulate in this campaign—a space where people sit safely and quietly with their feelings," Ben&Ben said in a statement.

The photographer's "Things You Wanted To Say But Never Did" project, which features the anonymous confessions written in what has now become Geloy's iconic penmanship, resonates well with the message of their song, the band continued.

"When we realized he would be the perfect artist to work with for 'The Ones We Once Loved', we instantly took a chance and set up a meeting with him."

Speaking to GMA News Online, Geloy shared it was a quick collaboration that took all of one month. "Pinarinig nila sa 'kin yung kanta. They told me, kailangan namin ng image para dito," he narrates.

"Nag-hanap ako sa archive [ng litrato] na bagay sa title, tulad na nang ginagawa ko na sa project," he added.

In this collaboration, Geloy handwrote the most striking lyrics in the song for the postcards, including "Did it ever cross your mind that you hurt me too?" "I wasn't built to build you up when you fall," and "So I apologize for coming into your life."

"We've always wanted to [collaborate] with Geloy as most of the band members look up to him," the band said.

The feeling is somewhat mutual as Geloy revealed his steady diet of Ben&Ben music throughout the pandemic.

"Nakita namin ni Bea [his wife] yung Wish Bus performance nila, tapos tuloy-tuloy na. Buong pandemic, sila lang yung pinapakinggan namin," he continued, adding "Kathang Isip" even became something of a lullaby for their four-year-old daughter Narra.

This is only the beginning of creative collaborations between Ben&Ben and Geloy. The photographer shares there have been talks between the two parties to meet up and shoot when the band flies to the U.S. for their much-awaited eight-city tour
