Koi fish, Macau birds, iguana, and tortoise are among Kuya Kim's house pets

Kuya Kim is known to be an animal lover on television and in real life.

On Monday's episode of "Unang Hirit," the Kapuso broadcaster introduced his house pets to Suzi Abrera.

First on the list of Kuya Kim's pets are the 30 koi fish in their house pond.

"When we moved in the house 20 years ago, 100 sila. Pero ngayon, malaki na [but now they're big], survival of the fittest eh. Thirty plus na lang sila [They're only 30 plus now]," Kuya Kim said.

According to the Kapuso broadcaster, the water filtration system is essential in caring for koi fish.

Kuya Kim also takes care of his three Macau birds native from South and Central America.

"Tumatagal sila ng mga 90 years [They live up to 90 years], but these birds have been with me for almost 15 years," he said.

Kuya Kim also has two iguanas in his home. Fun fact: they are herbivores!

"This iguana is around two years old. Ang life span nila ay 12 years [Their life span is 12 years]. They are pure herbivores so wala silang kinakain kundi gulay lang [they don't eat anything but vegetables]," he said.

Due to this, Kuya Kim said he is meticulous in curating the plants around his garden.

"Maingat ako, wala akong tanim na may lason, kasi pag kinagat ng animals ko, mamamatay [I'm careful, I don't have a poisonous plant, because when my animals bite into them, they will die]," he said.

Kuya Kim's house also shelters land tortoises.

"Ang mga tortoises ay land turtles. Meaning pag nilagay mo sa tubig ang mga yan, malulunod sila [Tortoises are land turtles. That means when you put them in the water, they will drown].They don't know how to swim," he said, adding that land tortoises could live up to 200 years.

As much as Kuya Kim's cowboy hat is his trademark, he is also known for giving valuable tips and facts on TV. Previously, he explained why dogs are being sold at a higher price than other animals.
