Filipino pilot assembles, flies own plane
A pilot from Ozamiz City has accomplished his dreams of assembling and flying his own plane.
According to Kuya Kim’s “24 Oras” report Thursday, Phil Vergara built his ultralight aircraft, called RP-S2357, in his yard for six years.
Though he faced challenges, including problems with the radio and losing motivation at one point, Vergara eventually succeeded in flying his own plane.
Meanwhile, the first airplanes to fly on Philippine territory were the Shriver Skylark and the Devil Biplane, which marked the end of Manila Carnival in 1912.
The first powered airplane, called the Wright Flyer, was invented by Wright brothers Orville and Wilbur. It flew for 12 seconds during its first flight.
Neil Armstrong honored the Wright brothers when he brought pieces of fabric and wood from the plane’s wing when he flew to outer space.
The astronaut did this to pay tribute to Orville and Wilbur whose concept of the plane made it possible for him to reach the Moon. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
