Ben&Ben shows different side in new angsty folk-rock song ‘Langyang Pag-ibig’
Known for their mellow beats and hugot-filled love songs (how can we ever forget how “Kathang Isip,” and “Pagtingin” hurt us?), Ben&Ben shows a new side of them in their latest single “Langyang Pag-ibig,” where they channel rage and frustration following the end of a romantic relationship.
Witnessing how a burning love ultimately ended up in a disaster, this new single was arranged with classic rock and percussive elements. The nine-piece collective wrote about a bad breakup with the stinging anger of someone struggling to move on and get their life back on track.
The song packs a devastating punch with a chorus that articulates one’s feelings of being betrayed. “Kung balak mo akong iwan, bat mo pa ’ko minahal?” is a huge step away from the other hooks of their breakup anthems.
“It’s the song where we flexed our musicality the most,” the acclaimed folk-rock band said in a statement. “It’s three songs in one song, but it still sounds like one song.”
Released under Sony Music Philippines, “Langyang Pag-ibig” is recorded at Spryta Studios, the same place where Ben&Ben recorded the entirety of their multi-platinum debut album, “Limasawa Street.” It was produced by the band and Jean Paul Verona, mixed by Sam Marquez and Verona, and mastered by Leon Zervos.
“We’ve always wanted to make a song with this vibe, and we think the songwriting in itself begged for it,” shared the chart-topping group. “It helped that Jean Paul and Sam were very familiar with the vibe we were going for and that helped create the general mood and sound we wanted for ‘Langyang Pag-ibig.’”
According to the band, the song was approached in the familiar way their previous singles were recorded. They jammed a couple of times then arranged it together slowly. “We also balanced elements and see how high we could take the themes,” they added.
