'Crazy Rich Asians' spin-off in the works —report
A spin-off for "Crazy Rich Asians" is reportedly in the works, and this time, the spotlight will be on Astrid Leong.
According to a report on Deadline, the new project will tell the story of Astrid's romance with Charlie Wu. In the original film, Astrid and Charlie were played by Gemma Chan and Harry Shum J. respectively.
"Barry" producer and writer Jason Kim is set to pen the script, the report added.
This spin-off is supposedly different from the "Crazy Rich Asians" sequel currently in development, although both are tied to Kevin Kwan's novel "China Rich Girlfriend."
"China Rich Girlfriend" is the second book in Kwan's "Crazy Rich Asians" trilogy. It follows newly-single Astrid as she reconnects with her fist love Charlie.
The 2018 film "Crazy Rich Asians" follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as she learns that he boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) belongs to one of the richest families in the country. —JCB, GMA News
