'Hunger Games' prequel movie 'The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes' slated for 2023

The "Hunger Games" prequel movie is totally happening!

According to Variety, Lionsgate unveiled the teaser for "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" during CinemaCon, and announced that it will be released on Nov. 17, 2023.

The teaser had a text that said: "The world will discover… who is a songbird… and who is a snake."

Based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, "The Hunger Games" is set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future where tributes are chosen to compete in a televised fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark end up being the tributes from their district and they travel to the Capitol for the deadly competition.

Collins released the prequel spin-off in 2020. "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is set decades before the events of the original trilogy and follows Coriolanus Snow, who would become the tyrannical President of Panem. —JCB, GMA News
