Bernadette Reyes shares her journey from zero bike to big bike: 'Never too late to learn how to ride'
Bernadette Reyes is encouraging more women to try motorcycling after discovering the joys of riding a big bike.
In a Facebook post, the GMA News reporter said she did not even know how to ride a bicycle before transitioning to motorcycles.
She said she was afraid to fall off a bike and get scars, but she faced her fears when her family gifted her a BMX bike.
"I was so happy that day! Nanood ng YouTube 'How to ride a bike' [videos], inalis 'yung pedal at pinag-aralan balansehin ang sarili kaysa 'yung may bubuntot sa likod. After all, we are in charge of our own destiny ika nga," Bernadette said.
("I watched on YouTube 'How to ride a bike' [videos], removed the pedal and learned how to balance myself instead of having someone tail me from behind.")
She learned quickly and could bike around in just a week. Afterwards, she transitioned to a light underbone motorcycle, a Suzuki Smash.
"Nagsimula ang araw na hindi kaya mag-motor, natapos ang araw na kaya na mag-motor! Gosh super saya!" she said.
("Started the day without knowing how to ride a motorcycle, finished the day able to ride a motorcycle! It's such a joy!")
She later bought a Vespa, and then finally went ahead and got herself a big bike.
Bernadette advised those who are interested in riding big bikes to find a motorcycle that fits their height and driving style. She said she also prays a lot before riding, as she is still learning and gets nervous sometimes.
"Gusto ko na mas marami pang lady riders ang maging part ng motorcycle community kasi more than the pleasure of riding, its the people you meet along the way that makes riding worthwhile," she said.
