Here's what to expect in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'

The premiere of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" is still a month away, but worry not, Marvel just released a featurette to tide us over.

Last time we saw Doctor Strange was in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," where he messed with a spell that made waves in the multiverse.

In the upcoming "Doctor Strange" sequel, he'll be facing the consequences of his own actions.

Director Sam Raimi and the cast talked about what to expect from the film, and here's what we got:

1. It will explore many universes

As the title suggests, the film will be taking viewers to different universes.

Director Raimi said that telling this story was a "gigantic endeavor."

"It had to be large because it had to not only pain our universe but of multiple universes," he said.

The problem, of course, is the consequences of delving into the Multiverse in the first place.

"Unlocking the Multiverse creates a big Pandora's Box," said Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

2. There will be new characters

The film's trailer shows Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff reunited — two of the most powerful characters in the MCU.

However, if actor Benedict Wong is to be believed, there will be a bunch of new characters, too.

"These other realities invite a plethora of all these new characters," he said.

3. The film is aiming to give a shock

Benedict Cumberbatch said he finds the film's direction "unfathomably exciting."

"It's the most fantastic new phase of Marvel," he said.

Wong also pointed out that we're now in "unknown territory."

"I think audiences are going to be startled," he said.

Raimi also said that he wants the audience to go, "Oh, how cool!"

"We wanted to give fans what they wanted, just not exactly what they expected," he said.

4. There might me more than two versions of Doctor Strange

In the trailer, it was shown that Doctor Strange encountered an alternate version of himself, one that carries a decidedly sinister air about him.

But if Cumberbatch is to be believed, then his character might just be encountering more than one version of himself.

"The stakes are real. He's literally coming up against versions of himself," he said.
