Erden Eruc, first man to circumnavigate the world using human power, reaches Albay
Erden Eruc, who holds the Guinness World Record for first solo circumnavigation of the globe using human power, has landed in Albay.
Albay’s Provincial Tourism, Culture and Arts Office has shared photos of its ceremonial welcome for the Turkish-American adventurer, who reached Legazpi City on his rowboat on Thursday.
It said Eruc, the “first man to cross Pacific Ocean on a rowboat,” started his solo Pacific crossing from Crescent City in California on June 21 last year, reached Waikiki in Sept. 10, and landed in Guam in February.
“This is the 1st time in history that the North Pacific (east to west) have been crossed by human power to a country in Asia,” it added.
According to Eruc’s website, he aims to raise awareness about plastics problem in the ocean.
“After reaching mainland Asia, Erden intends to continue overland to the foothills of Everest before attempting that climb in fall of 2022,” it said.
As of writing, Eruc holds 18 Guinness World Records, including fastest circumnavigation of the globe by human power (individual). – RC, GMA News
