Will there be a 'Zombieland 3'? Hopefully in another 10 years, director jokes

After the success of "Zombieland" and its sequel "Zombieland: Double Tap," will there be another followup in the fan-favorite zombie franchise?

In an interview on ComicBook.com's Phase Zero podcast, director Ruben Fleischer brought up the fact that there was a 10-year interval between the first two films.

He revealed that it had become a running joke among the cast, which includes Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Abigail Bresline.

"Emma joked, while we were making the film, we should do one of these every 10 years. So, hopefully by 2029, there'll be another Zombieland," Fleischer said humorously.

"But I don't know. I mean, I also kind of feel like the Double Tap... I don't know. I wonder how many times you can return to the well, so we'll see," he added.

Fleischer also revealed that they had wanted to make a sequel to "Zombieland" as soon as it came out, but they "didn't have a story worth telling."

"It just took time to let it marinate and let the characters evolve. And I'm so pleased and proud that the cast was able to come back so that we could make the second one," he said.

"Zombieland," released in 2009, follows three strangers who find each other in a zombie-ridden post-apocalyptic world and travel across the United States in an attempt to find a sanctuary.
