J.J. Abrams announces new 'Star Trek' film, eyes original cast including Chris Pine
J.J. Abrams has confirmed that a new "Star Trek" film will be developed for 2023.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, no deals are in place yet, but Paramount is hoping to see the return of Abram's Enterprise ensemble, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña and John Cho.
The aforementioned cast starred in the 2009 relaunch of the franchise and in the two sequels.
"WandaVision" director Matt Shakman will helm the next "Star Trek" installment, the report added.
"Star Trek" is a sci-fi media franchise that follows the adventures of Commander Spock, Captain James T. Kirk, and the rest of starship USS Enterprise across space. In the latest film series, Chris Pine plays Kirk and Zachary Quinto plays Spock.
There are currently 13 "Star Trek" feature films in existence, the latest reboot being launched in 2009 with "Star Trek," followed by "Star Trek: Into Darkness" (2013) and "Star Trek: Beyond" (2016). —JCB, GMA News
