Mariah Carey’s 1994 song ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ tops Billboard Hot 100, Global charts

Christmas is truly in the air as Mariah Carey’s festive hit song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” rules Billboard charts anew!

The holiday staple, which was released in 1994, topped the US-based Billboard Hot 100 for the sixth time on the latest chart dated Dec. 25.

According to Billboard, the song “makes an unprecedented return to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, rising from No. 2” and “becomes the first song in the chart’s history to have led in three distinct runs on the ranking.”

“[A]s streaming has grown and holiday music has become more prominent on streaming services’ seasonal playlists, it hit the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time in December 2017, before ascending to No. 1 in both December 2019 (for three weeks) and December 2020 (two),” it said.

Billboard said that with “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” Mariah “claims her record-extending 85th week at No. 1 on the Hot 100.”

The Billboard Hot 100 chart “blends all-genre US streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.”

All I Want For Christmas Is You” also led both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global excluding US charts dated Dec. 25.

Launched in September 2020, the two global charts ranked songs based on streaming and sales activity “from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by MRC Data.”
