Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo cast as leads in 'Wicked' musical film
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are your new Galinda and Elphaba!
The two stars have been cast as the two witches in the big screen adaptation of the musical "Wicked."
In an Instagram post, Ariana expressed her excitement about the casting by sharing a photo of the moment she heard the news.
"Thank goodness," she captioned.
She also shared a photo of a bouquet of flowers sent to her by Cynthia which read, "Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you, I look forward to sharing the musical journey with you."
Cynthia likewise shared a photo of herself looking shocked and delighted over the news, saying, "Pink goes good with green," which are the colors of Elphaba and Galinda.
She also showed the flowers that Ariana sent her with the note, "Dear Cynthia, honored doesn't begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz."
"Wicked" is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz." The story follows the Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba and the Good Witch Galinda.
In its Broadway run, Idina Menzel played Elphaba, and Kristin Chenoweth played Galinda.
The film adaptation is helmed by "In the Heights" director Jon M. Chu. —JCB, GMA News
