Kuya Kim says shooting ‘24 Oras’ segment for 1st time felt like when he was starting out 17 years ago

Kuya Kim Atienza has revealed that when he shot his segment on “24 Oras” for the first time, it felt just like when he was starting out in broadcasting 17 years ago.

During an exclusive interview on “The Howie Severino Podcast,” he said that while he was filming #KuyaKimAnoNa, he was nervous but at the same time excited.

“You know what, Howie, how it felt yesterday? It felt like me 17 years ago when I was starting out in broadcasting. I was that excited 17 years ago,” Kuya Kim told Howie Severino.

“Ang kaba ko laging nandoon, e (I always got nerves),” he said.

“And kaba is good because if you don’t have the kaba, then you don’t have the energy. So it’s a healthy mix of kaba and hyperness,” he added.

“Of course, kinabahan ako nang kaunti because it’s a new venue and then ginamitan pa ako nu’ng parang reality video na … ang galing, e.”

[Of course, I was a bit nervous because it’s a new venue and they used a reality video of sorts … it was amazing.]

It also helped, he said, that the “24 Oras” anchors were extremely welcoming and kind.

Kuya Kim said his first week being a Kapuso was filled with rehearsals, especially for his new show “Dapat Alam Mo!” with Emil Sumangil and Patricia Tumulak.

“At kakaiba itong newscast na ito because admitting my several newscasts in my 17 years in media, iba ito. Mabilis. Napakabilis,” he said.

“Alam mo the whole hour nakatayo kaming tatlo roon at nagpapasahan kami ng linya,” he added.

[This newscast is different because admitting my several newscasts in my 17 years in media, this is different. It’s fast. It’s so fast. You know, the whole hour we were standing and throwing lines at each other.]

“(Also) the camera work is different. It’s very different from the usual newscasts that we watched.”

After expressing his utmost gratitude to his former network, Kuya Kim opened up about making his decision and adjusting at GMA.

“I’ve come to a point in my life and I’m 54,” he said, adding he’s not yet ready to retire. “I still have a lot of things to do.”

He said “with the circumstance that surrounds my former network, hanggang doon na lang ang magagawa ko, e (I can only do so much).”

“I would like to be able to be seen and to be heard, to be able to express myself to a larger audience.”

Before deciding to transfer, he said he prayed and asked for signs, and the signs “came so clear.”

In an interview earlier this month, Kuya Kim revealed that Alden Richards was one of the signs that helped him decide.

“A lot of my fans, a lot of people who understand, they do understand why I decided to move on to Kapuso,” he said.

“And last night after my first segment on 24, I was trending. #KuyaKimAnoNa was trending number one on Twitter. And I was reading all tweets about it. And they were all positive. 99.99% of it was positive which means that they understand. There are haters. And haters will always hate. But most people do understand it,” he said.

Earlier this month, Kuya Kim was announced to be the newest Kapuso, receiving warm welcomes from the likes of Dingdong Dantes and Mang Tani.
