Pinoy ‘Skipman’ sets new jump rope record
A Filipino has set a new world record on jumping rope!
According to Oscar Oida’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, Ryan “Skipman” Alonzo was able to do 40,980 double-under skips in 12 long hours. The report said it was higher than the 20,000-mark set by Guinness World Records.
To do a double-under, the rope has to pass the feet twice with every jump.
“If we get a higher number, kung nilakihan natin yung number, mas maganda and mas mahirap siya i-beat din (if we got a higher number, it’s better and it’s harder to beat),” Alonzo said.
During the competition, Alonzo said he took breaks for only seven minutes per hour and ate “small bites” of food such as bread and banana to keep him energized.
Having to jump rope for half a day, the Skipman said he began suffering from cramps in the middle of the competition.
Thankfully, Alonzo said, his loved ones were present to cheer him on, which gave him the determination and strength to continue.
“Do’n ko kinuha talaga yung lakas ko. Nagulat din ako na there was one time na nawala ’yung sakit ng cramps ko. Mga three or four hours left na lang, biglang nagka-second wind ako,” he said.
[That’s where I got my strength. I was also surprised there was one time I felt the pain from cramps was gone. With three or four hours left, I suddenly got a second wind.]
Alonzo and his team are now in the process of submitting evidence to the Guinness World Records to make the new feat official.
