Erwan Heussaff urges public to register, vote based on candidates’ track record

Erwan Heussaff has urged the public to register and base their votes on the candidates’ track record.

On Thursday, the vlogger shared a photo of himself after finishing the voter’s registration process.

“Please register if you haven't yet. Lines are long but it's worth it!” he said in a lengthy post.

Erwan said he never felt like his vote counted, but 2016 made him realize that it did and it was everyone’s duty to take part in it.

“I don’t know who I’m going to vote for yet, I’m still waiting for everyone to announce their candidacies and more importantly their platforms,” he said.

“I really hope we stray away from personality politics and base our decisions on track records and what platform each candidate is running on. Think of it as a job interview, what would you ask the candidate, what prior experience would you look for? What background checks would you do, what would convince you? Which references would you check?”

He also urged the public to educate each other instead of “shouting and trolling on Twitter.”

“You’ll never convince someone to see what you see by shouting at them. Reach out to people from other parts of the country to understand their realities and experiences,” he said.

“Then maybe you can help people decide based on facts and research,” he added.

“At the end of the day, your vote should reflect what you want for yourself, your community and your country, it’s a personal decision with national implications.”

Toward the end of his caption, Erwan jokingly said if anyone “hated” his post, that person had issues because his words were “so neutral it’s beige.”

“And yes I’m Filipino so I’m allowed to vote,” he added.

Aside from Erwan, other celebrities such as Michael V. and Bea Alonzo have been vocal about the importance of voting in the upcoming 2022 national elections.

Bianca Umali and Barbie Forteza have also shared their experiences lining up for hours just to be able to register to vote.

After much pressure from the public, the Commission on Elections announced Wednesday that voter’s registration would be extended from Oct. 9 to 31. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
