JP Soriano’s award-winning documentary ‘Recto’ can now be streamed for free
You can now stream JP Soriano’s award-winning documentary “Recto” for free.
As part of the Active Vista International Human Rights Festival’s “Frames: Repleksyon 2020,” “Recto” and five other short films can now be streamed for free from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3.
“The story of our struggle can only be truly told through many different frames. Together, the Active Vista International Human Rights Festival’s FRAMES short films attempt to complete the picture. Each of them is a work of art that will leave you reeling for much longer than its running time,” said the announcement on Active Vista’s Facebook page.
“Take a few minutes to watch, listen, and maybe pitch in to the conversations they raise,” it added.
“Recto,” which was first screened at University of the Philippines Film Institute and was aired as a segment by GMA News, won Best Documentary at the inaugural ASEANale Film and Multimedia Competition in 2018.
The documentary revolves around Recto Mercene, one of the few photographers who was able to get a visual record of the moments after Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. was shot at the tarmac of the then Manila International Airport.
The senator’s death in August 1983 was instrumental in driving the Filipino people to the streets and eventually overthrowing the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Aside from Soriano’s documentary, the other short films that can be streamed for free are Myra Soriaso’s “Panambi (Mother’s Land),” Kristoffer Brugada and Cha Escala’s “Bullet-laced Dreams,” Edmund Telmo’s “Balikbayan Box,” Martika Escobar’s “Living Things,” and Kyle Francisco’s “Gulis.”
