Coldplay's Chris Martin to BTS: 'I have a lot of love and respect for you'
Chris Martin has nothing but praises for South Korean superstars BTS.
In a special episode on YouTube's "Released," the Coldplay frontman interviewed RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook ahead of the premiere of the band's "Permission to Dance" music video featuring fans around the world.
"I feel that during the pandemic, you guys have been giving a lot of joy to a lot of people in a time where it's been very difficult to do that. So I have a lot of love and respect for you for that," he said.
BTS released their first English single "Dynamite" in August last year in hopes of sending good vibes around the world. Earlier this year, they followed it up with the smooth and silky "Butter," and then the feel-good "Permission to Dance."
All three songs debuted in the Billboard Hot 100.
The group also launched the "Permission to Dance" Challenge on YouTube Shorts, encouraging people from all over the world to dance the choreography, which was made easy to follow and even included sign language.
"Actually, the purpose of this challenge was to give a positive message to people, but we also felt thankful, comforted, and received positive energy while watching people doing the challenge," Jimin told Martin.
During the interview, the BTS members were shown video messages from their overseas fans, who expressed their gratitude for the inspiring and comforting song.
Martin also thanked BTS for "bringing joy to so many people in the world."
"I send you all my love," he said. "Thank you for working so hard, I know how hard you work."
As the boys bid farewell and thanked Martin, he replied, "Anytime. I'd do anything for you."
BTS released the compilation of "Permission to Dance" YouTube Shorts shortly after the interview with Martin.
Aside from ARMYs, it also featured covers by the legendary Elton John, and other South Korean celebrities such as soloist and BTS's labelmate Lee Hyun. —JCB, GMA News
