How to keep your home safe from termites
When you experience a termite attack at home, it is important to treat them all in one go to prevent any more incidents, a pest controller said in an epiode of "Born to be Wild."
According to Juan De Guia said once you see termites in an area of your house, you have to get your whole house treated.
“Lahat ng possible entry ng anay, kailangan malagyan ng chemical para walang umatake sa iba. ‘Pag isang part lang, walang chemical sa ibang [area], do’n lilipat [yung anay],” he said.
[You have to put chemical in all possible termite entries so it won’t attack other areas. If you treat just one part, termites will transfer to the area with no chemical.]
Kristine Sico, a victim of termites who eventually studied them for prevention, added that the house should be kept dry — and well-lit! — as termites like dark and moist areas.
Different from termites found in forests, Philippine milk termites directly feed on wood and build their homes inside people’s safe spaces.
In the wild, they munch on trees but the second they get close to one’s home, they treat wood like doors, cabinets, and furniture as their meal.
Despite this, Kapuso veterinarian and host Dr. Ferdz Recio reminded viewers that termites are only doing so since that is their purpose as part of the environment’s decomposing structures.
“They can’t differentiate what real trees are from those in our homes. Practically, they are just doing their jobs to survive and to propagate their population,” he said. — Franchesca Viernes/LA, GMA News
