This lolo from Laguna creates moving robots using broken electric fans, scrap materials
A 70-year-old grandfather from San Pedro, Laguna has been spending his free time amid the pandemic creating unique robots made out of scrap materials.
In Mark Salazar's report on "24 Oras," Monday, Romy Carlos Pascual said he decided to get creative to fight against sadness and boredom while on lockdown.
"Naghahanap ako ng magagawa. Mahilig ako gumawa ng kung anu-ano. Marunong ako gumawa ng electric fan. 'Yung mga magbobote, binebentahan ako ng sirang electric fan," he said.
["I look for things to do. I like doing lots of things. I know how to make an electric fan. Those who collect junk, they sell me broken electric fans."]
"Doon, nabuo 'yung electric fan na gumagalaw. 'Pag gumalaw 'yung ulo, gumagalaw din 'yung kamay kaya ang dami kong nagawa," he added.
["From there, the moving electric fan was built. When the head moves, the hands also move, so that is why I was able to do a lot."]
Among his pieces are Camille-bot, Koko-bot, and Juno-bot, whose names are inspired by his grandchildren.
According to Romy, he has no plans of selling his masterpieces, but he is open to doing commissions.
"Gawa lang nang gawa kasi lumilipas ang mga araw, oras. Ang panahon, 'di ka naman hihintayin niyan," he said.
"Para sa 'kin, gumawa ng libangan para 'di mo ma-feel 'yung lungkot sa buhay," he added.
["Keep on creating because days pass and time passes. It won't wait for you. For me, do something that will keep your mind off things, so you won't feel the sadness in life."]
