For those who still don’t know, Ruby Ibarra is a proudly Filipino-American female rapper, music producer and scientist.
In 2017, she released her album “Circa1991,” which speaks about being Filipino. It features her rhythm and poetry in English, Filipino, and even Waray.
She is also making waves in the biotechnology industry, doing research around finding a cure for COVID-19.
In her NY Times feature, Ibarra spoke about the challenges faced by Asian-American artists in the music industry and what it meant to be a pop star in 2021.
“If I’m going to be rapping, I better be saying something of importance,” the Filipina was quoted as saying. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
