BTS member Suga remixes Samsung’s iconic ‘Over the Horizon’ ringtone

Samsung has tapped no less than BTS member Suga to produce a remixed version of its iconic “Over the Horizon” instrumental theme song.

The track was released Wednesday as part of the electronics giant’s “Unpacked” event, where it showcased its latest products and innovations.

According to a Rolling Stone report, Samsung representatives said Suga was the “perfect person” to remix the track that also served as their smartphones’ default ringtone.

It also said the jingle, which was composed in 2011, now stood as the official brand sound on all Samsung Galaxy devices.

In a video released by Samsung, the BTS rapper, songwriter, and producer described working on the song as “incredible.”

“I listened to a lot of instrumentals at a young age and I’ve always wanted to make an instrumental track, so the whole process was incredible” he said. “It was an honor to work on a song that has been part of Galaxy’s 10-year history.”

The BTS member, who also went by his rap name Agust D, said he experimented with new sounds and “added a string solo and guitar to make it more dramatic and to give it the full grandeur.”

However, he said he was careful not to stray too far from the original version. “I tried to make my own interpretation while keeping the melody largely the same, for it to resonate with a broader audience,” he said.

“Like the title, ‘Over the Horizon,’ it’s about going beyond our limits,” Suga said. “No one knows what will unfold, but our dreams make us go farther than ever.”

The report said that according to a Samsung representative, an expanded version of the track will be available on the next software update of Galaxy phones.

Samsung launched its partnership with BTS last year when it tapped the global pop icons as endorsers and later unveiled a purple co-branded S20+ phone and Galaxy Buds+ earphones.

During the “Unpacked” event, Samsung unveiled two upgraded folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3, which offered sleeker designs, improved water resistance, and more durable screens.

The Flip3, with a 6.7-inch display, will start at USD 999, while the 7.6-inch Fold3, which includes a retractable pen, will retail at USD 1,799. – RC, GMA News
