Nas Daily loses almost 370K followers in 3 days following Whang-Od controversy

In the span of three days, Nas Daily, also known as Nuseir Yassin, lost almost 370,000 Facebook followers following the controversy with traditional tattoo artist Whang-Od and entrepreneur Louise Mabulo.

According to Facebook analytics tool CrowdTangle, Nas’ primary Facebook page began losing followers on Aug. 4, the day Whang Od’s grandniece Grace Palicas cried foul over Nas Academy’s Whang-Od Academy and said her grandmother didn’t sign any contract with them.

From having a total of 20.98 million followers on Aug. 4, the number dropped to 20.59 million.

In June, the Palestinian-Israeli vlogger announced a roster of professionals from the Philippines who would be collaborating with him on his Nas Academy to share their knowledge, and Whang-Od was one of those listed to teach.

However, Yassin received intense social media backlash after Palicas, in a now-deleted Facebook post, called out Yassin for “taking advantage of our culture” and urged the public for help to stop the “disrespect to the legacy of Apo Whang Od and the Butbot Tribe.”

She also shared that Yassin may have “spoken to someone and given some money,” but “Apo Whang Od is not aware of your contract.”

In response, Yassin released a 22-second video the following day showing Whang Od signing a contract using her thumbprint with her niece Estella Palangdao present.

“This is the clearest evidence that it is not a scam and achieved the consent of her and her immediate family,” he wrote.

Following his post, The Cacao Project founder Louise Mabula spoke about her experience with the vlogger, saying he was disrespectful and “didn’t care about making change or shedding light on real issues—he only wanted content, a good, easy story to tell that would get him more Filipino view.”

Although Nas has already responded to Louise’s statements, more issues about them have since surfaced online. – RC, GMA News
