Hidilyn Diaz pixel art, anyone?

Hidilyn Diaz's historic win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics inspired so many people including this artist who tried to recreate the monumental win through pixel art.

The animated clip created by Krystel Ybañez (@letskry on Instagram) features the Filipino gold medalist doing her marvelous clean-and-jerk at the women's weightlifting 55 kg event, complete with her blue Team Pilipinas uniform.

“Thank you for lifting our 127kg-heavy spirits. Isa kang bayani, Hidilyn!” Krystel captioned it.

Last Monday, Hidilyn Diaz made history as the first Filipino to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games after ruling the women's weightlifting 55-kg event in Tokyo.

The 30-year-old athlete from Zamboanga was also a silver medalist at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and a gold medalist in the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

For Ybañez, Hidilyn’s win came at “such perfect timing."

Before the news came out last Monday, the artist had been feeling anxious due to the recent news about COVID-19 and other issues pressing the country mentioned during President Duterte’s last State of the Nation Address.

“But then barely two hours after, we received the news regarding her win! She really did lift up our 127kg-heavy spirits, and it's just the inspiration I needed to feel more hopeful about the future. Hidilyn is a strong, persevering woman that defied whatever setbacks came her way.”

Ybañez was so inspired by Hidilyn that she broke her own personal record of finishing a single pixel artwork, completing all 27 frames in one day. For context: Ybañez would usually need three days to finish a single frame.

The artist wished to give the athlete her best.

“I'm not sure if she could read this, but Hi, Hidilyn! Thank you so much for reigniting our love and pride for the country,” Ybañez said.

“You are a strong, inspiring woman, and I admire how you could literally and figuratively lift whatever roadblock comes your way. You deserve everything and so much more! Congratulations.”

Diaz's historic achievement for the Philippines has been celebrated by athletes and dreamers from all around the world. On our shores, Iya Villania brought out the barbell and "baby weights" to try and do a Hidilyn. Meanwhile, Rochelle Pangilinan broke out into a mega power dance to celebrate.
