Genshin Impact launches third in-game nation of ‘Inazuma’

Ad astra abyssosque!

Video game developer miHoYo has officially released version 2.0 of the massively popular open-world role-playing game Genshin Impact, allowing players to enter the heavily anticipated in-game nation of “Inazuma.”

Genshin Impact follows the story of siblings Aether and Lumine, two “Travelers” on a celestial journey through countless different worlds—that is, until an unnamed god appeared and forcefully separated them.

At the start of the game, players can choose to play either of the two, who then wakes up in the mysterious world of Tevyat.

Guided by the non-playable character Paimon, the Traveler soon finds out that Tevyat is governed by seven “Archons,” powerful deities who each possess supreme control over a certain element: Pyro (fire), Geo (earth), Dendro (nature), Cryo (ice), Electro (lightning), Anemo (wind), and Hydro (water).

Released last September, Genshin Impact has taken the world by storm with its straightforward yet fluid gameplay, stunning visuals, fresh plot, and surprisingly unique characters. In line with its impact on modern gaming, Genshin has been awarded “iPhone Game of the Year” by Apple in 2020, on top of it bagging Google Play’s “Best Game of 2020.”

(Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

After journeying to the freedom-loving nation of Mondstadt, looked after by Barbatos, the Anemo Archon; and the economic superpower of Liyue, established by Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon; the Traveler in Version 2.0 sets sail for the isolated nation of Inazuma.

A land surrounded by a never-ending storm, Inazuma is governed by Baal, a reclusive and seemingly malevolent archon—in contrast to the lighthearted demeanors of Barbatos and Rex Lapis.

Many players have speculated in online forums that Baal may perhaps be protecting her own people from something sinister, something that’s deeply ingrained in the world of Tevyat.

To know if that theory is true or not, players would just have to play it out. – RC, GMA News
