Fil-Am beauty queen wins Miss Nevada, set to become first-ever transwoman to compete in Miss USA
A Filipino-American beauty queen is set to become the first-ever transgender woman to compete in the Miss USA pageant.
Kataluna Enriquez was crowned Miss Nevada USA on Monday (Manila time) after wearing a shining rainbow-inspired gown which she made by herself.
"In honor of pride month, and all of those who don't get a chance to spread their colors," she wrote on Instagram hours before her crowning moment.
She will compete in the Miss USA 2021 competition on November 29.
Miss Trans Global 2020 Mela Habijan also celebrated Kataluna's win on Twitter.
"Our trans Pinay sister, Kataluna Enriquez, made history today! She won Miss Nevada 2021. She will be the first trans woman to compete at the Miss USA Pageant!" she wrote.
"Mabuhay ka, sis Kataluna Enriquez!" she said, adding LGBT and Philippine flags.
