“The word ‘nevertheless’ (means) that despite the things you know, you end up doing something else and I think that tells us a lot about romance and romantic relationships because you know you will be hurt, you know that if you fall for someone you will probably end up the same way or you will be abandoned, he or she will leave you,” the producer said in Korean.
“Nevertheless we jump into romance. That is the story we’re telling. After nevertheless, there’s more stories about what happens despite all of that, despite the despair, the disappointment. We want to tell stories of those who want to risk themselves and risk love.”
Go Ram also shared her hopes that the audience would resonate with the main character Yoo Na Bi, played by So Hee. She said compared to the traditional romance series that’s based on fantasy and which people turned to to escape the real world, “Nevertheless” hoped to show what really happened in real life.
“I truly related to the despair, the bitterness of romance in the original story. That’s what differentiates the series with other dramas,” Go Ram added.
Song Kang himself said that when he first read the script, he knew it was a different kind of romance that made it stand out.
So Hee also said that in a way, she resonated with Na Bi, who hoped that she would be the exception in how a romantic relationship realistically ended.
“In the past I would have acted like Na Bi. Now, I’ve been through that and done that. I kind of resonate but also I feel sorry for her,” she said.
“We all come across the question we ask ourselves. ‘What we are doing?’ That is the very essence of our series,” Go Ram said.
“We always risk ourselves and go into relationships nevertheless and we get hurt and we think we don’t want to love anymore and yet we try to find romance yet again,” she added.
“Nevertheless,” a romance drama series based on a webtoon of the same name, revolves around young art student Na Bi who doesn’t believe in love after the disastrous end of her first romance, but still wanted to date.
Meanwhile, Song Kang’s character Park Jae Eon enjoys flirting with many women but doesn’t believe in dating exclusively. The two have different wants, but nevertheless they find themselves drawn to each other.
