Inka Magnaye defends Liza Soberano's voice acting in 'Trese,' praises Shay Mitchell's performance

Inka Magnaye defended Liza Soberano's voice acting in "Trese" after her performance drew criticism from viewers.

On Sunday, the professional voice actress took to Twitter to express her two cents on the issue.

"First note: Liza Soberano's voice is perfect for the character. It's got a great balance of youthfulness and grim," Inka said.

"A bit more exaggeration could have added more dimension, even an exaggeration of a deadpan delivery (think Daria). But other than that, I'm liking it so far!" Inka added.

Inka also said that Liza "isn't monotonous."

"She has dynamics in her delivery. However, she does tend to deliver her lines in almost the exact same cadence, and people confuse that with monotony," she said.

Inka said she believes that this "could have been a direction thing."

"Seeing as she is an actor and not really a voice actor, whoever was directing her during the recording sessions could have guided her a little more to explore different deliveries, but that's just what I think," she said.

However, Inka said people including her don't really know "how things were while they were recording" and she was just speculating and sharing her own thoughts.

Inka also commented on Shay Mitchell's voice acting on the  English dub.

"It's a little strange how she reads the Fil incantations, but I like how Shay Mitchell does the deadpan badass delivery!" she said. "Deadpan blase, deadpan annoyed, deadpan snarky. The little nuances are so satisfying."

"This is the nuance that Liza Soberano's dub would have benefited from, but it’s not that easy to do so it's understandable!" she added.

Inka as a voice actor herself said not all voice actors can do it.

"It's something very trainable though, and an actress like her will surely be able to get that down with practice!" she said.

"I also love how they kept the Filipino accent for all the other characters! It's so interesting to hear!" she added.

In case you didn't know, Inka grew popular after posting a video of her and her mom Lindy reciting the script for Philippine Airlines' in-flight reminders.

Both women were among PAL's in-flight voice actresses, with Lindy getting the gig in the 90s and Inka eventually being chosen for the job in a blind audition.

"Trese" took the top spot of Netflix Philippines chart on the weekend it premiered.

It also took spots in the Top 10 Netflix shows internationally, such as in the United Arab Emirates and Canada.

"Trese," the first Philippine anime on Netflix, premiered on June 11.
