What drew Chae Soo Bin, Jang Ki Yong, Krystal to star in Netflix’s ‘Sweet & Sour?’

The stars of Netflix’s “Sweet & Sour” have revealed what drew them to the film.

Playing Jung Da Eun, a nurse in a long-distance relationship who gets cheated on by her boyfriend, Chae Soo Bin said she accepted the role because it was unique.

“The difficulties that everyone goes through in a relationship was something that resonated with me but it’s something that’s not cliché,” she said in a press conference on Tuesday.

Jang Ki Yong (Jang Hyeok), meanwhile, said he found the script “entertaining.”

“All of the characters were very vivid and I felt like we could really create something fun and because of the realistic portrayal of romance, I could really relate to it,” he said.

He added he was able to incorporate a lot of his own characteristics to the role which made him enjoy playing it more.

“The way I smile, the way I talk, a lot of that is coming from me and what’s more important is the director gave us directions that he wants it to be very natural,” he said.

“He said ‘be yourself on set’ so that was the approach that I took,” he added. “I really enjoyed it so that was a great experience for me.”

Da Eun (Soo Bin) and Hyeok (Ki Yong) play an engaged couple whose relationship goes into shambles because of distance and another woman, played by Krystal Jung.

Portraying a character that viewers may find as the bad one, Krystal (Han Bo Yeong) said she made sure to do it in a way that viewers could understand her.

“Bo Yeong knows that these two are in a relationship but still, she hits on him. That might not look so lovely and pretty to other people so I talked with the director,” she said.

“I wanted to shows the loveliness of Bo Yeong in her own way,” she added. “She’s frank and she’s not intimidated by anything. She’s also very goofy and kind of silly.”

According to director Lee Kae Byeok, he did not have a hard time choosing the actors because he found them perfect for their roles.

He also said he thought they were the right actors to portray the realities of young love, which was his goal.

“The young people nowadays are much busier than we used to be. They live these busy lives and they must have hardships when they are in relationships,” he said.

The trailer for the film, which was released last month, showed Da Eun and Hyeok enjoying their time together until he got an opportunity away from her.

Things get more complicated when Hyeok meets Bo Yeong and becomes interested in her.

When Hyeok mistakenly calls his girlfriend Da Eun by Bo Yeong’s name, their sweet and loving relationship turns sour.
